Hanoi, Vietnam, February 24, 2025 - A new grant agreement worth $503,597 USD (equivalent to VND 12.5 billion) was signed today between the Government of Japan, represented by His Excellency Ambassador ITO Naoki, and MAG Vietnam to support mine action efforts in Quang Binh province.
Since 2015, funding from Japan has enabled MAG to clear over 25 km² of contaminated land, respond to more than 7,000 reports of explosive ordnance found by local communities, and safely destroy over 30,000 dangerous items. Thanks to these efforts, more than 137,000 people have been able to live, farm, and build a safer future.
This new grant will continue that life-saving work by funding three clearance teams, one roving team to respond to community reports of bombs found, as well as two community liaison teams to conduct life-saving explosive ordnance risk education.
“I would like to emphasise how very grateful MAG is to have this support. Without it, we would not be able to continue our activities in the province, which is among the most contaminated in Vietnam. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the government and the people of Japan for their continued trust in our work,” stated Sarah Goring, MAG Vietnam's Country Director, at the signing ceremony.
